The Usual Suspects: Movie Poster Redesign

Project Concept

I recreated a movie poster for the cult classic film, The Usual Suspects. My parents and I had watched the movie together and I took note of scenes and images that they, as viewers who had seen the movie before, and myself, a new viewer, found important. I started my creative process by picking out scenes and images from the film that were engaging and thought-provoking. I originally wanted to use symbolism to capture the twist in the movie and had a few drafts centered around the big reveal, but I found that some scenes were able to capture the intensity of the movie more clearly in a single poster. When the pool table scene played, my dad had said “This is one of the most iconic scenes from this movie,” and I could automatically see why. The suspense and drama that took place in this scene made it immensely engaging to watch, and was dramatic enough to create intrigue for a poster without giving away any major plot points. This project won a 2023 Graphis New Talent Design Competition Gold Award.
